English Open Challenge Winners: January 2021

POSTED ON MARCH 01, 2021
conversations about COVID English Open Challenge

The goal for our first English Open Challenge was to provide a platform for youth voices and reflections. Through a personal narrative essay and a podcast, students were asked to synthesize their experiences with COVID and envision a brighter future.

It was an absolute privilege to hear from such a variety of voices and a true challenge to pick just three winners from each league. Students were vulnerable, thoughtful and charismatic in their projects. As a reminder, contestants were judged on both products equally, and the criteria included personal narrative techniques, message, grammar & mechanics, sound mixing/editing, interviewing and originality.

Thank you to all students who submitted their work and shared their unique perspectives! Even if you did not place, we hope you enjoyed the experience and encourage you to compete in our next Open Challenge.

Note: We received too few Senior League submissions to judge them; however, the volume and quality of submissions of Junior League participants was so high that we decided to move 3 of older students to this league.
