About this Course

Video is quickly becoming the most important type of media. This course helps students learn the basics of film editing including cuts, montages, masking, and more. With guidance from a personalized instructor, students will use these newfound skills to learn how to tell meaningful and interesting stories using video. Students can use any video editing software for this course.

  2. I can make a new project.

  3. I can import media into the project and drag it into the timeline.

  4. I can trim and cut video and audio clips.

  5. I can add transitions and effects to video and audio clips.

  6. I can add titles to my movie.

  1. I understand what continuity/invisible editing is.

  2. I know what it means to cut on action.

  3. I can identify action in a scene and create a seamless cut between shots.

  3. I can identify cross-cutting.

  4. I can identify jump-cutting.

  5. I can identify a shot and its reverse shot.

  6. I can utilize different cuts to enhance my visual storytelling.

  1. I understand what a montage is.

  2. I can identify why a filmmaker is using a montage (to speed up time, for comedic effect, to show character development, to convey information, to heighten tension, to combine storylines, to juxtapose images/ideas).

  3. I know some key techniques used in montages (quick cuts, little-to-no dialogue, voiceover narration, music, repeated movement).

  4. I can create my own montage to create meaning and enhance my storytelling.

  1. I understand the difference between diegetic sound and non-diegetic sound.

  2. I know how to analyze the sound editing in a scene.

  3. I can split audio tracks from movie tracks and manipulate them.

  4. I can do L-cuts and J-cuts.

  5. I know where to look when I need music or audio effects.

  1. I have some basic familiarity with any of the following: Green screen, Masking, and Animation.

My 3 sons ages, 10 1/2, 9 and 7 started using Juni in early June 2020 and absolutely love it. The instructors are college age kids and they relate to my boys very well.
